5 Spring Must-Dos for Manhattanites

As our warmer than usual winter recedes, spring is slowly taking hold in New York and city-dwellers are trading their Canada Goose parkas for spring’s floral dresses and Chanel espadrilles. My team has rounded up a few of our favorite places to chill or see and be seen this spring in the city – and most of them afford the opportunity to build up a bit of a base tan in preparation for the Hampton’s summer season, too.

Take a Sunset Schooner Sail: No need to trek all the way to the Hamptons to set sail on a bona fide schooner. Sail NYC offers Sunset Schooner Sails, which set off from Chelsea Piers in a gorgeous 80-foot schooner, and afford guests the opportunity to treat Manhattan like the Greek Islands, minus the hassle of travel. Wine is free flowing on board, and for the slightly more nocturnal, a moonlight version of the sail is also available.

Surround yourself with orchids: For the horticultraly-inclined, it’s not too late to see the Orchid Show at the New York Botanical Gardens. The show opened in up mid-winter to give visitors a respite from the snow, but a visit now is the perfect compliment to spring’s greenery and the tulips blooming all up Park Avenue. But hurry – the blooms come down April 17.

Take a class at the Trapeze School of New York: Move over Soul Cycle – there’s a new hot workout in town. The Trapeze School of New York offers one-on-one and group instruction in aerial acrobatics along the Hudson River. And what better time than spring to get ready for summer swimsuits on the beaches of the Hamptons, Nantucket, or St. Tropez, while flying through the warm, sunny air after winter?

Celebrate with Purpose: This spring affords an abundance of opportunities to showcase your most dramatic new pieces by Oscar and Carolina while lending a helping hand to historic preservation and to those in need. Two of my favorite of the many fabulous charitable fetes on offer this spring include New Yorkers for Children’s Spring Dinner Dance at the Mandarin Oriental on April 7 and Save Venice’s “Un Ballo in Marchesa” on April 15 – gown required, masks encouraged.

Picnic in Sheep Meadow: One of the most popular slivers of Central Park, the views from Sheep Meadow of the Central Park South skyline are nothing short of stunning. On a sunny day, grab a ready-made picnic basket from the classic delicatessen Zabar’s and spread out your brie, raspberries, and wine on a picnic blanket. Strawberry Fields forever, indeed.
