Last week brokers and potential tenants were invited to visit Frank Gehry’s “New York by Gehry”, the striking new 870 foot high, 76 story steel clad brand new addition to the Financial District’s skyline. Situated on Spruce street, close to the Brooklyn Bridge and City Hall this brand new luxury building will provide residents with unique and spectacular unobstructed views of Manhattan, including the Chryler Building and the Empire State Building. Being so close to the water and having such elevation, the higher floor apartments will bring the sense of the ocean back to those who forget that after all, New York is surrounded by water.
Continuing with his style of flowing shapes, the uniqueness of the building’s curtain like wall provides potential residents with hundreds of one-of-a kind floor plans.
As would be expected of a top-of-the line building, full luxurious amenities such as 24 hour doorman, concierge services, over 22,000 square feet of health and entertainment areas (including a Private Dining Room rentable by residents) and a Grilling Terrace.
As we head into 2011, the excitement surrounding the opening of this building after years of speculation and construction may provided a needed injection of positive news and energy into the Financial District’s residential market.
With some exciting projects underway again in Manhattan, albeit many fewer than during the boom years, perhaps Gehry’s project which wins the award for the tallest residential building in the Western Hemisphere, will be the new shining star of Downtown.
