I Love New York – A Year In New York – Video by Andrew Clancy

Over 26 years ago I packed two bags and moved to New York from Switzerland. Sometimes when you have been somewhere for so long, you learn to see what you see and forget what you saw when you first set foot in the city of your dreams. That’s what is so beautiful about this video by Andrew Clancy. As a newcomer to Manhattan, he shot his vision of our great city. Read more…

New York After Hurricane Sandy – Videos, Photos, Tenant Advice, Where to Donate and Emergency Contact Information Aerial View of New York During Sandy's Blackout - Photo Credit: Iwan Baan for New York Magazine (cropped)

As Hurricane Sandy battered Manhattan I nervously watched from my 12th floor West Village Co-op while simultaneously monitoring Facebook posts by friends and acquaintances. On the 42nd floor of a No-Mad condo a friend posted a hair-raising 10-sec video of his overhead lamps swinging wildly from right to left as though he was on a ship in a storm. “What are you still doing there?” a concerned friend asked.  Where would he go, I thought? NY & Fashion: Why Do People Come To New York?

This wonderful documentary feature “The Eye Has to Travel” on revered Harper’s Bazaar and Vogue Editor, Diana Vreeland is a beautiful look back at one of New York’s and the fashion world’s trailblazers. Design Find: The Architect & The Painter – Charles and Ray Eames Documentary by PBS

We have all heard of the “Eames Chair” and know of his designs.  Eames impacted mid-century design in many ways. I love all those who challenge conventional thinking, be it in design, fashion, the arts or architecture – or simply life. It is those who think outside of the box who move make the unimagined real. Think Steve Jobs of Apple.  I found a link to this video trailer. Can’t wait to buy the Charles & Ray Eames documentary “The Architect & The Painter” DVD from PBS and watch it.  Here is the trailer:

I just came across this great article written by Kate Betts for Travel & Leisure magazine. It’s about touring New York’s most dynamic neighborhoods and experiencing the change over time. Gain insight into how neighborhoods like Tribeca, Williamsburg and Harlem have truly changed since the 1980′s and even the 1990′s moving from the fringe to becoming ‘established’ with such long-time Tribeca restaurants Nobu being joined by celebrated chef Andrew Carmellini’s Locanda Verde in Robert DeNiro’s hotel at 379 Greenwich St.  Read more…
